Since the freight side was split off in 2010, Queensland Rail has been the passenger operator: the Brisbane suburban network, the Queensland Rail Travel long distance trains (Tilt Train, Spirit of Queensland, Spirit of the Outback, Westlander and Inlander), and the Gulflander and Kuranda Scenic Railway. It kept a small diesel fleet to haul them and for its infrastructure work, and it's mostly Clydes.

As well as its own 2900 class rebuilds, QR runs some of the 1720s and the 2400s and 2470s, which are listed under Aurizon. QR hung on to 2170 class 2195 when everything else went to QR National (it's now 2195A, lightened with a smaller fuel tank), and in 2014 it bought a few Clydes back from Aurizon for the passenger trains, three 2150s among them. The multiple units and railmotors are under Self-propelled passenger stock.
