Charter Outline

This QRIG Charter is provided for all Team Members, Members and Guests of QRIG as guidance to what is and isn't acceptable when using QRIG's website, Facebook page and Gallery Archive. It is up to the individual to take responsibility, read this document from start to finish and comply with the guidelines provided. Any breaches of this charter will be dealt with swiftly, with the Team Members working together to reach a final outcome. The outcome is at the Team Members' discretion, ranging from a warning or the editing or removal of a contribution, through to a permanent ban.

Categories

The QRIG Charter covers the three services QRIG provides:

  1. QRIG.org Website
  2. QRIG on Facebook
  3. QRIG Gallery Archive

QRIG.org Website

QRIG.org is a reference site covering the locomotives, rollingstock and workings of Queensland's railways. Contributions and corrections are welcome. If you've spotted something that's wrong or out of date, please get in touch with a link to the page and, where you can, a source for the correction. Contributed material is credited to its author and remains their property, as set out on the copyright page. AI-generated art, including AI-generated or AI-altered photos and videos, isn't accepted.

The QRIG Gallery Archive at archive.qrig.org preserves the photos that members contributed to the old QRIG.org Gallery, now hosted on Flickr. It's an archive, so it isn't accepting new uploads, but it remains a valuable record of Queensland's railways over the years.

Every photo in the archive remains the property of the photographer who took it, and copyright applies in full. Photos may be viewed and linked to, but they may not be copied, downloaded for reuse, republished, altered or used for commercial purposes without the prior consent of the photographer. Where a photo is shared with permission, the photographer must be credited. The archive is also covered by Flickr's own Terms of Service.

If you're a photographer with work in the archive and would like it credited differently or removed, please get in touch.

QRIG on Facebook

The QRIG Facebook page is the place for Queensland, interstate and international rail enthusiasts interested in the railways of Queensland. Queensland Rail and its successors are naturally the main focus, but posts and comments on cane railways and standard gauge traffic in Queensland are accepted and encouraged.

The page is also covered by Facebook's own Terms of Service and Community Standards, and it is up to the individual to be aware of them. Australian content is discussed, and posts that breach corporate confidentiality can have legal consequences, so please think before you share.

Below are some "Do's" and "Do not's" we ask everyone to abide by. Please read them, then enjoy a friendly, informative community on the railways of Queensland.

DO

* Post and comment on rail happenings in Queensland (on any gauge)
* Post interstate sightings of trains that originate or terminate in Brisbane
* Share trip reports
* Share sightings (see the guidelines for sightings below)
* Share upcoming events at your local railway heritage or interest group
* Share model train shows and exhibitions (please only advertise shows and exhibits based in Queensland; a QR theme is not essential)
* Share modelling of Queensland Rail and Queensland cane railways

Ask questions if you need to. Many of our followers are railway employees and/or heritage railway operators, and are more than willing to help those who wish to learn. Others, while not railway employees, are very knowledgeable about Queensland operations and can be very helpful too.

Promote your website or page if it has anything to do with the railways of Queensland or Queensland railway modelling.

DO NOT

Do not use foul, sexist, racist, derogatory or otherwise unwelcome language or remarks.

Do not attack other members. Posting or commenting to intentionally ridicule, belittle, defame or threaten another member, or to pile on with unwanted sarcasm about someone else's post, will NOT be tolerated, and offending members will be dealt with accordingly.

Do not post about:-

* Rail happenings in other states or countries. There are plenty of other groups and pages for rail activities elsewhere where you can discuss these topics. This does NOT include sightings of trains originating or terminating in Brisbane.
* Interstate or international trip reports, unless they relate to Queensland
* Model train shows and exhibitions in other states or countries (unless a Queensland-based layout is known to be on show there)

Do not post spam, scams or chain warnings.

Do not post AI-generated art, including AI-generated or AI-altered photos, videos and other images. Photos and videos should be genuine records of real railways.

Do not infringe copyright (see the copyright guidelines below). Contrary to popular belief, QRIG's content is not in the public domain.

Sightings

Sightings are welcome, with the following guidelines:-

Please don't post sightings of suburban and interurban units working regularly scheduled services (including empty movements, wash trains and the like). Sightings of units operating in unusual circumstances are welcome, for example units on lines they don't normally work, test trains or tuition trains.

Interstate sightings are welcome as long as the trains originate or terminate in Brisbane.

The following guidelines should be followed when sharing information or photos:-
1. Sharing your own post or photo elsewhere is permitted.
2. Sharing someone else's post or photo elsewhere is NOT PERMITTED without the prior consent of its author, and that permission should be noted when you share it.
3. Publishing, broadcasting or distributing information or photos from QRIG on radio, television, in print or in other digital media is NOT PERMITTED without the prior consent of the author.

These guidelines are there to protect everyone's rights. Each member has the right to know where their information and photos are being used. The QRIG team supports sharing information, but it MUST be done in a proper and legal manner. A simple message to the author asking for permission is all it takes.

Anyone who breaches copyright as described above will be given one stern warning only. A second occurrence will result in a permanent ban, provided all Team Members agree to such action. Furthermore, that person may be liable to civil action at the discretion of the author whose rights were infringed.

Members who break any of the rules MAY be, at the discretion of the Team Members:-
1. Warned
2. Banned temporarily, or
3. Permanently banned

Posting Disclaimer

Posting and commenting on QRIG's Facebook page is at the user's discretion, and QRIG will not be held liable for any content posted there by others. QRIG strongly discourages the sharing of restricted content and will not tolerate any breaches. If in doubt, please contact the team before posting.
