About Us

qrig.org, the Queensland Railways Interest Group, aims to be a central hub for information on the railways of Queensland. A one stop shop, if you like.

The group started in late 1999, with a handful of members carried over from the aus.rail Usenet group, and grew over the following decade through the QRIG website, members gallery and Yahoogroup. These days QRIG lives in two places:

• The qrig.org website, our reference library on Queensland's railways: motive power histories, technical data and rosters, safeworking, lineside guides and articles, much of it contributed by members over the years, including Mike Quirk's guide to the Queensland steam fleet.
• The QRIG Facebook page, where members share news, sightings and photos.

The older services have been retired but not lost. The members gallery is preserved on Flickr as the QRIG Gallery Archive, and the posts from the Yahoogroup (which later moved to Groups.io) are kept at the group archive. The charter sets out how we ask everyone to take part, and how copyright applies to the site and the archive.
