Progress Rail started in Alabama in 1982 as a recycling business and has been part of Caterpillar since 2006. In August 2010 it bought Electro-Motive Diesel, so it now owns the EMD designs that Clyde and Downer built under licence for so long. In Queensland it took over maintenance at Redbank for Aurizon in 2016, and it has rebuilt old Clydes there as the 2700 and PRL classes.

Based in Muncie, Indiana, USA, and Redbank, Qld.
