The 94s are Pacific National's newest mainline locos, C44ESACis designed between UGL and Wabtec (who took over GE Transportation). UGL won the order for 50 in October 2021, at $297 million and later $330 million, with deliveries spread over seven years from 2024. They're there to freshen up PN's interstate intermodal fleet and to work Inland Rail when it opens, hauling 1,500 to 1,800 metre container trains between WA and the east coast and up and down the eastern seaboard.

They follow on from the 93s, but this time they finally get GE's Evolution Series engine, which the earlier C44acis went without, and a redesigned cab roof. The underframes come from PT INKA at Madiun in Indonesia, with final assembly at UGL's Broadmeadow works.

The first three, 9401, 9402 and 9403, were finished or waiting on their final livery at Broadmeadow in July 2024, and the Evolution loco was officially unveiled there in June 2025. Service trials kicked off in August 2025 on Melbourne-Adelaide freight, and by October 2025 9403 was hauling The Overland.
